What does SWE-HA do?

Leadership

  • Leadership Activities provide opportunities for members to develop leadership and management skills, expand and enhance their career options, and achieve their maximum potential.
  • Includes Professional Development Workshops & Meetings on topics relating to professional development needs of membership, a Mentoring Program designed to provide one-on-one Mentoring Relationships for professional and personal growth, Networking activities to create opportunities for networking and interaction among members.

Recognition

  • Recognition Activities aim to expand the image of engineers in improving the quality of life, recognize the contributions and achievements of women engineers, and increase the visibility of SWE and its programs to members, the technical community, and the general public.
  • Includes Awards such as the Federation of Houston Professional Women’s Woman of Excellence Banquet, Engineers’ Week Young Engineer of the Year and other SWE National Awards, Public Relations, Industrial Support, and interacting with other Professional Societies.

Outreach

  • Outreach Activities, also called Career Guidance Activities, encompass many programs that promote and encourage interest in science, engineering and technology among students.
  • Includes College Scholarships, Sponsorships to NASA Space Camp, Certificates of Merit and Achievement, participation in the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston, a Partnership with the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council that includes an Engineering Badge Day, a Leadership Institute, and a Speakers Bureau, and our Girl Power 2 program implemented at Cullen Middle School to encourage 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls to achieve their full potential in math and science.
